Friends and Food Make Great Wall Buffet GreatBy Jared Mendenhall WEST VALLEY CITY -- Utah's Chinese-buffet fans are discovering the joys of the Great Wall of China Buffet. Open for a little more than three years, this West Valley eatery has built a regular clientele that finds great comfort browsing the steam tables, sampling the food and customizing meals from the selection of traditional Chinese favorites. Daily, the buffet offers a host of popular dishes that include pot stickers, barbecued spare ribs, General Tso's chicken and assorted stir-fry topped with rich sauces and served over rice or noodles. Most first-time visitors are surprised to see the variety of seafood available and that there is even a small assortment of sushi. Another surprise for Great Wall rookies is the wide selection of foods, which ensures that even the pickiest of eaters will find something appetizing. This includes a collection of vegetarian dishes as well as high protein/low carbohydrate fare that is conducive with today's popular diets. The dessert bar, piled with the fresh fruit, cake squares and cookies, rounds out the perfect meal -- if you still have enough room in your stomach to indulge. Using a simple, booth-oriented layout, the restaurant has a family-friendly ambiance that lends itself well to large get-togethers. An extensive carry-out menu complements the buffet and is a savior for on-the-go fans of the restaurant. Carry-out prices bounce around the $6 range. Great Wall of China Buffet is located just east of I-215, at 2222 W. 3500 South. The lunch buffet costs $6.59 and the dinner buffet is a measly $8.99. The restaurant is open seven days a week for lunch and dinner. For more information or to place a take-out order call (801) 887-0088. |
